“Eugene Onegin”, based on Aleksander Pushkin’s novel in verse by the same name is undeniably the masterpiece among Russian opera classics.
Dreamy and modest Tatyana falls in love with dandy Onegin, who arrogantly rejects her feelings. They meet again years later and this time Onegin sees her quite differently...
Melancholic, yet full of longing, passion and love the opera offers beautiful flowing melodies, charming choir sets and engaging dance music.
Dmitri Bertman, Director:
“Konstantin Stanislavski has a double anniversary this year – 150 years from birth and 75 from death. His opera production “Eugene Onegin” (1922) gave a start to the contemporary music theatre. What was modern in 1922 is now retro, like a black and white photo. My goal was also to reproduce Stanislavsky’s “Eugene Onegin” as retro.
After seven productions of “Eugene Onegin” I wished to invent no more and just turn back to good old traditions - nothing more than just pure directing and working with actors. No more artistic “additives” and “flavour enhancers”, just an all-natural “bio product”, just as it tasted in childhood.”
