Jamie Woon
Jamie Woon, the British singer-songwriter whose intimate blend of soul, R&B and forward-thinking production has captivated listeners for more than a decade, will perform at Paavli Kultuurivabrik in Tallinn on November 14, 2026. Known for his distinctive voice, deeply personal songwriting and acclaimed recordings such as “Night Air”, “Sharpness” and “Making Time”, Woon creates an evening of atmosphere, groove and emotional depth.
Born and raised in South London, Jamie Woon emerged as one of the most compelling new voices in British music at the turn of the 2010s. A graduate of the BRIT School, where he studied alongside future stars including Amy Winehouse, Woon first attracted widespread attention with the independently released “Wayfaring Stranger” EP before breaking through internationally with “Night Air”, the 2010 single co-produced by Burial that helped establish his unique artistic identity.

His debut album “Mirrorwriting” followed in 2011, earning critical acclaim for its fusion of soul vocals, electronic textures and intimate songwriting. That same year, Woon was named fourth in the BBC’s prestigious Sound of 2011 poll, cementing his reputation as one of Britain’s most promising emerging artists.
Rather than rushing to capitalize on that early success, Woon chose a slower and more deliberate creative path. Reflecting on the years between his first and second albums, he explained: “I wasn’t really in a rush. I just wanted to feel like I had new stuff to say, and I’d found the right people.”
That patient approach resulted in “Making Time” (2015), an album that marked a significant artistic evolution. While retaining the warmth and emotional honesty that defined his earlier work, Woon moved away from many of the electronic elements associated with “Mirrorwriting” and embraced a more rhythm-focused sound rooted in songwriting and groove.
“I always knew I’d make a record like this one day,” Woon said. “The main thing that took me a long time was writing lyrics. I like to feel like I’m expressing something. I’ll start with a vague emotion, and then something you don’t really understand. Sometimes it can take a while for that to bubble to the surface and get the words to explain what’s going on.”
His commitment to authenticity has remained a constant throughout his career. Looking back on his debut, Woon described it as “a real honest record” that reflected exactly what he was interested in and feeling at the time. At the same time, he has spoken openly about wanting listeners to understand that his music has always been rooted in songwriting rather than trends or scenes.
“I feel like when I came out there was a lot of ideas about me before people had even heard the record,” he recalled. “For me music has always been about song writing and I write songs on my guitar.”
In 2025, Woon released a new album “3, 10, Why, When”, featuring singles such as “Heavy Going” and “A Velvet Rope”. Once again, the musician offers listeners a glimpse into his ever-evolving creative world, continuing to follow his own artistic instincts rather than the expectations of the music industry.
