Jenny is a young filmmaker searching for inspiration. She falls in love and tells her crush she cannot remember her dreams. Jenny enjoys browsing markets and buys an old video camera at a flea market. She explores the footage on the camera’s tape, revealing strange artifacts and surprising presences. What was that appearing on the screen?
As Jenny is searching for a story to tell, the film unfolds as a shaky, moving parable that follows dream logic through free associations, tonal shifts, and genre-bending. Blending autofiction, found footage, romance, and horror, debut filmmaker Christopher Yates gives us a poignant diary film, an engaging visual wave, that reveals much about us and our inner selves.
Made without following the usual funding channels, “Night Vision” is a self-produced, low-budget film – a true indie – that takes bold visual and narrative risks, discovering the true essence of cinema: a dreamcatcher that helps us relive the past. It is a rebellious act of filmmaking that subtly bridges genres and proposes an amusing immersive experiment that is thought-provoking, innovative, and emotional.
