Estonian National Male Choir
Conductor, arranger and music director: Valter Soosalu
Awarded a Grammy in 2004, the Estonian National Male Choir stands out as a distinctive vocal instrument. Beyond its powerful sonority, the ensemble is defined by a stylistic agility that allows the singers to step away from their core classical repertoire once a season to explore alternative musical paths.
This new project follows the success of their 2026 program of Estonian rock classics, which featured arrangements by Siim Aimla performed alongside Hanna-Liina Võsa and the band traFFIc. This time, the choir turns its attention to the songwriting of Riho Sibul and Tõnis Mägi.
For these season finale performances in Tartu and Tallinn, Valter Soosalu has created new choral expansions of iconic songs by the two balladeers. Backed by an instrumental trio led by guitarist Ain Agan—a longtime musical companion to both featured artists—the arrangements unveil unexplored dimensions of this familiar music.
The blend of fresh choral textures and recognizable melodies offers a reflective perspective that speaks to long-standing admirers and new listeners alike, showcasing the expressive qualities of the male choir.
