World-famous tenor Roberto Alagna to perform in Estonia for the first time, portraying the legendary Enrico Caruso

One of the world’s most acclaimed tenors, Roberto Alagna, will perform in Estonia for the first time in March. On March 27, he will bring the musical production “Caruso. A Voice for Eternity” to the stage of Alexela Concert Hall - an emotional story about the life, love, ambitions and jealousy of the legendary Enrico Caruso and about the voice that changed the history of opera. “Caruso. A Voice for Eternity” is neither a traditional opera concert nor a conventional biographical narrative. Historical facts intertwine with fiction, transforming Caruso’s life story into a theatrical drama filled with unexpected twists, colourful characters and an extraordinarily diverse musical world - ranging from opera and Italian songs to blues, rock, metal and electronic music. Roberto Alagna, who portrays Enrico Caruso in the leading role, says: “There is an enormous amount of emotion in it because the story itself is already incredibly moving.”

The musical narrative takes audiences to the final years of Enrico Caruso’s life and to America at the beginning of the 20th century - a world shaped by immigration, social inequality, organised crime and struggles for influence. One of the central storylines explores Caruso’s relationship with Giulio Gatti-Casazza, then general manager of the Metropolitan Opera. Their relationship begins with admiration and friendship but gradually deteriorates under the pressure of jealousy and rivalry. Alagna compares their story to that of Salieri and Mozart.

Over a career spanning nearly four decades, Roberto Alagna has been closely associated with the world’s most prestigious opera houses, including the Paris Opera, New York’s Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House in London, La Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. His repertoire includes more than 60 roles, from Rodolfo in La bohème and Don José in Carmen to Othello, Calaf in Turandot and Lohengrin.

Alagna’s own artistic work, however, extends far beyond opera. His music brings together classical, pop and traditional influences, while his discography ranges from complete opera recordings to French chansons and Italian and Neapolitan songs. His albums have sold millions of copies worldwide. His connection with Enrico Caruso is not new either: one of his most recent albums, “Caruso 1873”, is dedicated to the legendary Italian tenor.

Roberto Alagna created “Caruso. A Voice for Eternity” together with French composer, guitarist and arranger Jean-Félix Lalanne, who co-authored the production and composed and orchestrated its music. Throughout his career, Lalanne has written music for films and theatre productions, as well as concert and symphonic works, and has collaborated with artists including Bonnie Tyler, John McLaughlin and Chet Atkins.

This is not Lalanne’s first collaboration with Alagna. He also created Al Capone, a musical written especially for the tenor and staged in 2023 at Paris’s legendary Folies Bergère theatre. Their latest collaboration is “Caruso. A Voice for Eternity”, which premiered in September 2026.

The first performances of “Caruso. A Voice for Eternity” in France sold out, and the French daily Le Dauphiné Libéré highlighted the power of Roberto Alagna’s voice, the strong cast and the production’s unexpected plot twists. On March 27, Estonian audience will also have the opportunity to experience it all, as music, theatre, the story of Enrico Caruso and Roberto Alagna’s extraordinary talent come together on the stage of Alexela Concert Hall.
