Alphaville
Alphaville Forever! Live - Best of 40 Years
November 16, Alexela Concert Hall
Legendary German synth-pop band Alphaville, which shot to fame in the 1980s and still sells out concert halls around the world, is coming to Tallinn! If you enjoy the vibe of the 1980s, don’t miss the rare opportunity to hear your favourite songs performed live!
Alphaville’s hits — “Forever Young”, “Big in Japan” and “Sounds Like a Melody” — became anthems of a generation, and the band’s music can still be heard in films, TV shows and commercials. We remember the melodic sound — their music is timeless. Even those who don’t know the name of the band have probably heard “Forever Young”.
In 1982, Marian Gold, Bernhard Lloyd and Frank Mertens formed a band, which they originally called Forever Young, but later renamed Alphaville. Gold became the lead vocalist and lyricist, creating such hits as “Big in Japan”, “Sounds Like a Melody” and “Forever Young”.
“Forever Young” was not the band’s most successful single in the European charts — “Big in Japan” scored higher positions. However, the song became one of the most recognizable works of the band thanks to numerous covers.
On the surface, “Forever Young” sounds like an anthem of youth, but on a deeper level, it contains an anxious reflection on the fear of aging and death. Unlike other songs on this topic, “Forever Young” does not call for a fight — its heroes realize that they are not able to change the world, hence they suggest just dancing and enjoying the moment.
Alphaville is one of the brightest representatives of synth-pop, with its melodic vocals with reverb, synthesizers, lyrics about dreams and love. Having shaped the sound of the 80s, it remains relevant decades later still.
The band has come a long way since its foundation in 1982. Its leader Marian Gold is the vocalist, lyricist and generator of ideas. The band does more than just perform their old hits — in 2022, they released their eighth album “Eternally Yours”.
The last time Alphaville performed in Estonia was at the “80s LIVE!” concert at the Kehtna Stadium in July 2024. Earlier, in 2015, the band performed at a concert in the port of Lohusalu.
The next concert takes place on November 16 at the Alexela Concert Hall.
Come to the concert and enjoy the moment! Forever Young!
