163116 / Armony
Armony (Valerio Mastandrea), a 55-year-old solitary truck driver, finds himself taking care of his six-year-old niece Carlotta (Aurora Cherchi) after the disappearance of his sister. By his side are Pamela, an elderly transgender woman, and Jenny, a neighbour who is expecting a baby. When social services threaten to take the child away, Armony is forced to fight with all his strength to obtain legal guardianship.
“I wanted to explore family ties through the lens of loneliness. The arrival of an unknown niece forces our protagonist to step out of his comfort zone. It was essential to show how an unexpected event can rekindle a sense of responsibility.” - Dario Albertini, director
The film premiered at the Locarno Film Festival.
