40 Years of "Graceland"
Ladysmith Black Mambazo (South Africa)
Estonian Voices
Four decades ago, American singer-songwriter Paul Simon travelled to Johannesburg after hearing a demo tape of vocal music that was unlike anything he had ever encountered. Travelling discreetly to avoid the attention of the apartheid regime, Simon’s journey sparked one of the most influential chapters in pop history: the album "Graceland" (1986). The subsequent world tour, featuring major stars of the era, encouraged the world to hear African music anew and recognise that the roots of modern rhythmic music lay there. At the very heart of this movement was the vocal group Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
The members of Estonian Voices have long been devoted admirers of the South African ensemble. Now, these artists share the stage for a collaboration that promises to bring something entirely fresh to the audience.
