The focus of the evening is one of the leading young lights of British pianism, Martin James Bartlett, whose stage presence and effortless delivery have gained him followers worldwide.
Leading the orchestra is conductor Jessica Cottis, praised for her intellectual depth and the ability to maintain a transparent texture and rhythmic precision.
Between Bartlett and Cottis there is a nearly telepathic understanding, which transforms the piano concerto into an intimate conversation rather than a mere display of power.
