Haydn. The Creation

Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir
Tallinn Chamber Orchestra
Conductor Tõnu Kaljuste

Programme:
Haydn. Oratorio "The Creation" (Die Schöpfung)

Haydn composed "The Creation" between 1796 and 1798 in Vienna, at the height of his international fame. Based on the Book of Genesis and John Milton’s epic "Paradise Lost", the oratorio depicts the biblical seven days of creation—from the emergence of light, sky, and sea to the appearance of animals and, finally, humankind. Milton's texts celebrate the beauty of nature and divine harmony, reflecting the idealistic spirit of the Enlightenment. Haydn famously used the orchestra and choir to mimic the sounds of nature and wildlife. The 1798 premiere in Vienna was a triumph, and the work quickly became a cornerstone of the European repertoire.

In collaboration with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and the Tallinn Philharmonic.

Duration: appr. 2 h (with intermission)
