Handel. Oratorio "Messiah" HWV 56
The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE) is a British period-instrument ensemble dedicated to performing music from the 17th to the 19th centuries using historical performance practices. Founded in 1986, the group is noted for its flexible leadership structure, where the musicians themselves actively shape the repertoire and artistic direction. Working with renowned conductors and soloists, the OAE uses authentic instruments to recreate the original soundscapes of the past.
The ensemble’s repertoire spans the Baroque, Classical, and early Romantic eras, blending scholarly research with vibrant live performance. They have played a pivotal role in popularising historical performance practice. For this visit to Estonia, they perform George Frideric Handel’s glorious oratorio "Messiah". Written in London in 1741, the work marks its 285th anniversary in 2026.
