The classical music festival KRATT for children and youth will take place on 22–27 August 2022 in Tallinn, and the festival week will culminate with brilliant concerts by talented young people at the Estonia Concert Hall. The KRATT Festival, which is taking place for the third year in a row, creates a perfect environment for future leading musicians, bringing together a few hundred young musicians, offering them the unique opportunity to play under the direction of well-known conductors in Estonia’s most important concert hall. The festival takes place in cooperation with Eesti Kontsert.

Once again, the conductor of the KRATT symphony orchestra is Olari Elts, who has chosen the symphonic dances of Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story as the main work of the programme. In addition to this, works by Benjamin Britten, Lembit Beecher, and Sergei Prokofiev will be performed. There are, of course, a few surprise pieces up their sleeve as well.

The chamber orchestra will be conducted by Andres Kaljuste. Triinu Piirsalu (violin) and Andres Kaljuste (viola) will be soloing in Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante. In addition, Peter Warlock’s Capriol Suite, which is inspired by Renaissance dances, will be performed.

The small orchestra has a very big role to play this year: along with the theatre alumni of the Old Town Educational College, the early music consortium and workshop, the youngest musicians will perform the mediaeval chantefable, Aucassin and Nicolette (music by Siiri Siimer / Tauno Aints), directed by Maria Peterson. The small orchestra will be instructed by Elo Tepp and Susanna Biosca. The orchestra will be conducted by Susanna Biosca.

The concert of chamber ensembles in the Estonia Concert Hall will bring various ensembles of future leading musicians to the stage.

Fascinating encounters with culture in the series How to Listen to Classical Music are also planned this year for townspeople of all ages. On the August evenings of this year, the shining beacons of classical music that will be sharing their vision on the classics and listening, seeing, and participating will be Erkki-Sven Tüür, Maarja Vaino, Carl-Dag Lige, Olav Ehala, and Lembit Peterson.

Welcome to listen to and participate in a distinctive festival offering memorable concert experiences as performed by our future top musicians and as conducted by marvellous conductors.
