MASKED BALL: HOPE AND YEARNING
Luc Robert – tenor
Arvo Leibur – violin
Glasperlenspiel Sinfonietta
Andres Mustonen – violin, conductor
The countdown is running: the world quaking 2020 that we are leaving behind will enter history as a general “masked ball”. The concert, lasting one and a quarter of an hour, expresses our hope for the better and anticipation of the new. The fragments from Tchaikovsky’s “The Seasons” may serve as a reminder of the months that have passed. “Ave Maria” by Schubert and “Panis Angelicus” by César Franck, are like flickering lights at the end of the tunnel of hope. The neck breaking passages of Vivaldi, performed by violin duo Mustonen-Leibur, add sunny brightness. The 250th birth anniversary of Beethoven, celebrated about a dozen days ago, is referenced by “Hommage à brillance de Lune” by Peeter Vähi and premieres hereby an arrangement for orchestra. The concert’s crown jewel, however, is the voice of the tenor Luc Robert that fills the vaults of the church. His powerful voice has presented lead roles in many opera houses of the world, among them the Metropolitan in New York.
Let’s wave good-bye to 2020 with the hope and yearning that things can only get better!
