On June 27th 2023, one of the most popular bands of today's metal music scene - Gojira - will perform at Noblessner Foundry in Tallinn. The last time the band delighted Estonian music lovers was in April 2010. Now they're coming back with an even bigger show - their first solo concert! Urne and McLoud will take the stage as special guests.
Gojira was created in 1996 by French brothers Joe and Mario Duplantier, both music lovers extraordinaire. After five years of performing under the name Godzilla, the band grew to be one of the top performers in the world of metal music. Gojira has released seven studio albums to date.
Gojira has won several awards and is no stranger to Grammy nominations. Gojira’s drummer Mario Duplantieri has been repeatedly recognized by various music publications with the title of the best drummer in the world. They won awards for the best international band and the best live band at the Heavy Music Awards in 2017 and 2018.
The band's work is a symbiosis of several different musical styles. Thus, their music contains layers of death metal, thrash metal, progressive metal and avant-garde metal. In their early years, Gojira was influenced by Death, Metallica, Sepultura, Tool and Morbid Angel, and band has also cited Led Zeppelin, and Rage Against the Machine's debut album as influences.
At the same time, Gojira is the first heavy music band from France, who broke through to the top of the world music industry purely on their own. Gojira's lyrics about spirituality, life, death, rebirth and nature played a role in this. The band realized from the start that they could combine the depth of metal music with Joe Duplantier's lyrics inspired by the mysticism of nature, the environment, human nature and psychology. The band's lyrics revolve around the human condition and explore the person's place in this world.
Gojira is also known for their love of the environment. Artists have used their lyrics and music videos to call attention to climate change, marine pollution and the preservation of the Amazon rainforest. For example, the song Global Warming explores the human impact on the environment, and Toxic Garbage Island refers to a large garbage dump in the Pacific Ocean. Metal Hammer's Alec Chillingworth has even gone so far as to call their latest environmental single Amazonia a song of protest. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4CcX720DW4&ab_channel=Gojira )
The band's guitarist and singer Joe Duplantier has said that their songs are the result of long introspection. "It is not an easy process. When you wake up in the morning, the first thing you don't necessarily want to do is tease your demons, but obviously that's what we do", he admitted in an interview with Metal Injection shortly after the release of the hit record Magma. “Every time we step on stage, we open the cage and let it all out! Afterwards, the feeling is much better. It's like therapy for us."
Gojira will perform at the Noblessner Foundry in Tallinn on June 27th 2023. Pre-sale will take place for the members of Live Nation Estonia on February 7th. Tickets go on sale for everyone on February 9th. Ticket information can be found at Piletilevi sales points and online store.
