ELDERBROOK - Another Touch European Tour 2024
Known offstage as Alexander Kotz, Elderbrook's career began in 2015 with the release of his first EP, featuring the standout track "How Many Times", which was remixed by the German duo Andhim and ranked as one of Mixmag's best songs of the year. Since then, Elderbrook has collaborated with numerous artists, including Gorgon City, and remixed tracks by well-known acts such as Clean Bandit.
Elderbrook's most notable success came with his collaboration with CamelPhat on the track "Cola," which topped the Dance Club Songs chart in the United States and the Indie Chart in the United Kingdom. This track also earned a nomination for Best Dance Song at the 2018 Grammy Awards.
Venturing into music at the age of 16, Elderbrook initially played in an indie band before transitioning to a singer-songwriter role at 19. Describing his early work as "folky acoustic", he later shifted his focus to electronic dance music during his university years, adopting the moniker Elderbrook. His debut album “Why Do We Shake in the Cold" marked the beginning of his ascent in the electronic music scene. Reflecting on his musical journey, he shared, “I’ve tried all different types of music, and it just so happened that the electronic one kind of just stuck. I got into electronic music by making hip hop beats and like reaching out to local rappers to see if they’d collaborate.”
A live phenomenon, multi-instrumentalist, producer, singer-songwriter, Elderbrook has an innate flair for creating emotive music that explores the sensitive and introspective themes of identity, mental wellbeing and, more recently, parenthood. Classically trained in both piano and guitar, his production techniques reflect his ambition to create something entirely unique. Known for sampling unconventional sounds like breaking reading glasses and crackling ice in warm coffee, Elderbrook has stated in interviews that he often uses everyday objects as instruments, adding a distinctive edge to his music.
His latest single, "Places", continues to showcase his innovative approach to electronic music. Elderbrook, who secretly harbors a love for pop country music, confessed, “I’m secretly super into pop country, like top 40 country, so Jordan Davis and stuff like that. I can’t really remember the names, I always just put on playlists. But yeah, that’s my secret love… Like everyone else, I listen to everything from hip hop to peaceful piano music, but yeah, what people are surprised at is my love of top 40 country.”
Elderbrook's last released album, "Little Love", in 2023, is an ode to a new chapter in his life. Having become a father, he wanted to explore the unique relationship between father and child. “The album looks at how I’ve been reapproaching my own life and how I’m making choices through the lens of a bigger picture,” he explains, adding that he’s been partying less since he joined the Dad Club. Life can, and usually does, take on a whole new meaning when you become a parent, a transition that is captured perfectly on Little Love . Personal growth and progression, and how they influence the direction of your life, are the catalyst behind huge shifts, and subtle changes.
Kotz often brings his family along with him whenever possible. He reminisced, “Well, the oldest one is two and a half so she’s just way too young to stay up late enough. But we all went to Coachella together, for example. She saw me play Coachella on the big screen, which was a cool thing…”
Don’t miss the chance to witness Elderbrook’s innovative performance live in Tallinn on November 4, 2024, at Noblessneri Valukoda.
