COUNTRY SONG
Forest, sea and land - symphonic music inspired by the preservation of our planet.
With the opening concert of ERSO's new concert series "Song of the Earth" "Echo of Lost Forests", Olari Elts and ERSO focus on the forest theme. Estonian bassoon soloist Martin Kuuskmann, who lives in America, will premiere a bassoon concert by Icelandic composer Páll Ragnar Pálsson, commissioned by ERSO.
The concert "Sea Music" is part of a large-scale project "Sea of Music" uniting the Baltic Sea Symphony Orchestras, initiated by the Helsinki City Orchestra and the Stockholm Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, in addition to ERSO and the Copenhagen Philharmonic from Denmark. All of these orchestras want to have a say in environmental concerns, and the Baltic Sea has been brought to the forefront of this season. The wonderful maritime theme has been put together by conductor Jun Märkl, who has been the music director of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra since 2021, as well as the artistic advisor of the Taiwan National Symphony Orchestra and the chief guest conductor of the Residentie Orchestra in The Hague.
Dutch conductor Bas Wiegers will present the music of Stravinsky's fairy-tale ballet of the same name to the audience as the main work of the concert "Firebird". The concert begins with dances from the ranch life-themed ballet “Estancia” by Argentine composer Alberto Ginastera, while “Nostalgia” by Japanese composer Tôru Takemitsu is dedicated to Russian film director Andrei Tarkovsky.
The final concert of the series takes place in cooperation with the Estonian Music Days and is entitled “Different”, because it is definitely possible to think differently, act differently - it is up to us to decide whether it is better or worse. Kaspar Mänd conducts works by Estonian composers.
