Tue, 2 February at 7 Estonia Concert Hall
Concert series "I as an interpreter"
Johan Randvere (piano)
Programme:
Rääts. "Marginaalid" op. 6
Debussy. Bergamasque and L'isle joyeuse
Tchaikovsky Six Pieces Op. 21
Tchaikovsky-Pletnyov. Nutcracker Suite
The concert program is inspired by the performance of three great pianists Sviatoslav Richter, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, and Mikhail Pletnyov.
I was in Livorno, watching the Italian TV channel Rai 5, which featured a show dedicated to Michelangeli. Michelangeli's dedication to pianism was admirable, his Debussy recordings are simply extraordinary! By comparison, I listened to Richter's recording, which is quite different, yet imperceptible and frighteningly ingenious.

This concert program plays an important role in Johan Randvere's doctoral dissertation "The Work Process of Pianism in Designing the Form of Jaan Rääts' Piano Works". Out of Rääts' remarkable piano work, a cycle of "Marginaalid"consisting of 24 short pieces, offering the pianist a good challenge.
