Suur Tõll
Suur Tõll (at Viimsi Artium) – an emotionally gripping performance where past and present intertwine
What happens when a legend is no longer a dusty tale, but a pulsating force that still shapes us today?
From the winds of Saaremaa and the mist of the salty sea, the giant rises once more, ready to protect his people.
“Suur Tõll” is a visually captivating and emotionally powerful performance that weaves together Estonian mythology and modernity. Two worlds come alive on stage: the mythical Saaremaa, where the giant Tõll, his brave wife Piret, and the cunning Old Devil step into their epic roles, and the present day, where these very same characters live ordinary human lives. This dual narrative shows how the strength and wisdom hidden in legends can still resonate with contemporary audiences.
It is a story of strength and love, courage and betrayal, suffering and triumph – both in folklore and in our own time.
The production intertwines acting, light, video, choreography, and music, creating an epic scale and a deep emotional connection with the audience.
You will encounter a giant who protects his people, loves passionately, and stands face to face with darkness.
