Beethoven, Schumann, and Brahms form a kind of musical family tree, with each continuing the spiritual legacy of his predecessor, developing it in the key of his own era and personal style. They all saw chamber music as an intimate art form, a form of communication between the musicians themselves and between the musicians and the listener.

FIRE AT THE COUNT'S PALACE
It was precisely the fire that destroyed the palace of Ludwig van Beethoven's good friend and supporter Count Andrei Razumovsky that inspired the composer to write his Cello Sonatas Op. 102. Beethoven spent the summer of 1815 with the Erdödy family in Jedlersee, a suburb of Vienna, where Joseph Linke, a cellist in the count's service, was also staying temporarily due to the fire that had struck Razumovsky's palace. Beethoven's close contact with the cellist inspired him to compose the cello sonatas.

THE PIANO IS KING!
Robert Schumann's Piano Quintet is one of the most brilliant works of Romantic chamber music, offering both a search for musical depth and the simple joy of ensemble playing. The quintet is written for piano and string quartet, with the piano's exceptionally virtuoso part playing a very important role, but the strings are by no means relegated to the background – all voices are independent and expressive.

A GEM OF CHAMBER MUSIC
Johannes Brahms' Sonata for Viola and Piano, written by the composer at the end of his life, is emotional and rich, full of inner emotion and wisdom, like a meaningful conversation between two equal partners, two thinking people.
