Programme:

Brahms: Piano Concerto No 1 in D minor op. 15

Beethoven: Symphony No 7 in A major op. 92

Jonathan Biss is a globally celebrated pianist, recognized for his profound interpretations and musical insight. His depth of expression and intellectual approach to the music have earned him considerable international acclaim.

Delyana Lazarova is a brilliant and in-demand conductor, who regularly leads prominent ensembles throughout Europe and America. Lazarova’s artistic versatility is supported by her international training and experience across both Eastern and Western European musical traditions.

Brahms’s First Piano Concerto stands as one of the 19th century’s most notable expressions of idealism in music – an ambitious and emotionally charged composition by the young composer. It impresses with its symphonic scope and demands not only technical virtuosity from the soloist but also deep musical maturity.

Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony is often considered one of his most vital and rhythmically engaging creations. It brims with energy, pulsating rhythm, and a dance-like momentum. Richard Wagner called the work the “apotheosis of the dance” – a celebration of life that radiates hope, drive and affirmation. Above all, the symphony is an emotional journey – a blend of joy, tragedy, and vitality that still sounds immediate more than 200 years after its composition.
