Alexandra Walker is a choral director from the United States and Director of Choirs at Coeur d’Alene High School. She grew up in the small town of Bozeman, Montana, just north of Yellowstone National Park. From an early age she was actively involved in music as a singer, pianist, and harpist, and soon developed a deep love for both performing and teaching.
Walker has appeared as a soloist with the Intermountain Opera Company in productions of Carmen, La Bohème, Hansel and Gretel, and Suor Angelica. During her university studies she performed as a featured soloist with several top auditioned choirs and also sang with world-renowned jazz ensembles at Brigham Young University — Synthesis and the Jazz Legacy Band.
She completed her degree in music education at Brigham Young University in April 2021.
In 2022 she began teaching at Coeur d’Alene High School, where she took over a very small choir program and has significantly expanded and strengthened it in a short time.
During her first year of teaching, Walker received the Coeur d’Alene School District’s Rookie High School Teacher of the Year award. She was also named Idaho Young Music Educator of the Year for the 2024–2025 school year, as featured in the CDA Press.
Under her direction, the Coeur d’Alene High School Viking Jazz Choir placed first in its division at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in 2024 and second in the Large Ensemble division in 2025. Both of her auditioned ensembles—created after she began her position as director—have received superior ratings at festival events over the past two years.
Above all, Walker values her students and the opportunity to share her love of music with them every day.
Coeur d’Alene High School Choir
The city of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho is located in the northern United States near the Canadian border. The area is known for its beautiful lakes and mountain scenery, and nature is an integral part of daily life for many students.
The ensemble performing in this concert brings together intermediate and advanced choir students from the school. They will present music that they have studied throughout the academic year.
This year’s theme for the choral program is “Musica Mundi – Voices of the World.” The program features music from different cultures, sung in several languages and reflecting a variety of vocal traditions and instrumental styles. Students have also learned about the cultures and places from which this music originates and have discovered many connections between vocal traditions around the world.
The music and culture of the Baltic countries have been a particular inspiration for them.
