Unveiling

 

+Koor (+Choir) is a musical ensemble that has been experimenting for years with the fusion of contemporary pop and choral music. In 2022, they brought together the music of Veljo Tormis and Massive Attack. In 2023, they turned Estonia's choral singing tradition upside down using a loop station in a live concert, connecting the likes of Gustav Ernesaks and Björk. This year, the focus is solely on one instrument: the choir.

 

+Koor will give three concerts in May featuring 12 songs. For the concert "Unveiling" ("Koorime lahti!") songs are being written by musicians such as Marten Kuningas, Mihkel Raud, Jaan Pehk, Madis Aesma, Sten Šeripov, Tanel Ruben, Iiris Vesik, Karl Kivastik, Kaisa Kuslapuu, Bianca Rantala, Leslie Laasner, and Maria Faust. They all work in genres ranging from pop to rock, jazz to rap, and writing choral music is a new activity for most.

 

+Koor's singers and conductor, Liisa Rahusoo, describe the choir as a musical instrument alive and thriving in its contemporary context and music creation as a process driven by the creator's time and space. The concert showcases today's Estonian pop musicians, who only have human voices at their disposal and no other instruments. They are taken from their comfort zone into a much more intimate space. When writing for the choir, they must trust the singers and conductor enough to open up a part of themselves that will only be conveyed through the human body and voice. We will see how Estonian pop and jazz stars can open up with the help of +Koor!

 

The concerts take place: 
* 21st of May in Paide Music and Theathre House (Paide Muusika- ja Teatrimaja)
* 25th of May in Viimsi Artium
* 29th of May in the assembly hall of the University of Tartu (Tartu Ülikooli aula)

 

The concerts begin at 7 PM.

 

Children up to 7 years of age (included) can participate without a ticket if they sit in a lap. For others, see ticket prices on piletilevi.ee .

 

The project is a part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 side programme.
