Programme:
Mozart. Fantasy in D minor K. 397
Schumann. Piano Suite "Papillons“ op. 2
Schumann / Liszt. "Widmung“
Schubert. Fantasy in C major op.15/ D. 760 (Wanderer Fantasy)
Mozart’s Fantasy in D minor remains unfinished, yet it is a deeply expressive and much-loved work. Robert Schumann’s piano suite „Papillons“ (Butterflies) transports listeners to a series of whimsical musical scenes, inspired by the lively atmosphere of a carnival. The brilliant pianist and composer Franz Liszt often created transcriptions of other composers’ works, helping to bring lesser-known music to a broader audience. Schumann’s "Widmung“ (Dedication)—part of his song cycle „Myrtles“—is a heartfelt musical tribute to his wife Clara.
The programme concludes with Franz Schubert’s „Wanderer Fantasy“, which incorporates themes from his famous song „The Wanderer“. This technically demanding piece showcases Schubert’s dramatic flair, alternating between virtuosity and lyrical beauty.
Without intermission, duration 1 hour
