SALZBURG - ON THE TRACES OF THE SOUND OF MUSIC
After its release in 1965, the movie “Sound of Music” - based on the memories of Maria von Trapp and her family - became immediately iconic and it is still now fascinating millions of people around the world with its timeless songs and gorgeous setting.
On this virtual tour presentation, Raffaele will take us behind the scenes, learn a bit more about the family and visit the shooting locations in and around Salzburg: the Nonnsberg Abbey (where Maria was studying to become a nun), the Leopoldskron Castle (where the family lived), the Mirabell Palace gardens (with the famous Do-Re-Mi song) and many more.
Following the footsteps of Maria von Trapp and Julie Andrews, we will discover more about this city and its old town - often referred to as the “Rome of the North”, thanks to its stunning baroque architecture. A jewel with a unique and fascinating history and a long music tradition, which awaits you to be explored!

La Monnaie / De Munt - The Time of Our Singing

La Monnaie / De Munt - The Time of Our Singing

During Marian Anderson's historic concert in front of the Lincoln Memorial in 1939, a white man and a black woman fall in love. During the turbulent half-century that follows, they try to protect their three musically gifted children from prejudices they themselves have suffered.

Belgian avant-garde jazz pianist and composer Kris Defoort’s new opera is a fascinating symbiosis between jazz and classical music deeply rooted in the now. Inspired by Richard Powers' great American novel, The Time of Our Singing tells the story of a mixed-race family against the backdrop of racial segregation in the USA. In the world premiere at La Monnaie, Ted Hoffman's production lets official history and intimate stories collide to explore issues of identity, race and art.

Virtual Tour: Milan
A very international Italian city. Elena will lead us through the place of birth for ancient traditions that constantly looks towards the future. A citizenship with a strong sense of belonging, and at the same time focusing on the outside, the abroad, modernity. An urban space capable of reinventing itself, concealing a profusion of unexpected gems within its fabric. The true link between Italy and Europe, the past and the future, the here and the elsewhere.
To sum up Milan in a nutshell, it is arduous, given how eclectic and ever-changing it is. We will try together through this virtual visit, to discover (and uncover) the discreet allure of its many facets."

Dutch National Opera & Ballet - Missa in tempore belli

Dutch National Opera & Ballet - Missa in tempore belli

In an unusual twist, Dutch National Opera presents the Missa in a fully staged version. Their modern interpretation reveals the flip side of the unshakeable faith that runs through every note of Haydn’s mass. What emerges is the portrait of people who suffer under the heavy burden of a new-minded ideology.

Taking Haydn’s ‘Mass in time of war’ as its centrepiece, this special performance under the baton of the DNO’s new chief conductor Lorenzo Viotti combines music theatre, dance, electronic composition and video. Choreographer Juanjo Arqués’ nine dancers give physical expression to the contrasts central to director Barbora Horáková’s vision, while electronic composer Janiv Oron counterbalances Haydn’s religious music with live sound effects.
