INGLISE KEELES / In English / The Excursion: Touching the Fringes
This unusual Excursion takes you on an exploration of how life can look when you step away from your regular routes.
In the peripheral world of Valga- and Võrumaa, one can touch the edges and see what is beyond them. The Excursion invites the audience to discover the landscapes that can go unnoticed, unheard and unexperienced when sticking to our regular bounds. Here, you´ll find excitement, joy and many opportunities to see the world from different perspectives. You´ll have a chance to experience the world from the perspective of a bird, and hear about encounters with the Sri Lankan demons. The excursion also tries to find answers to the question of what keeps people there, in the periphery, and why do they choose to stay?
The Excursion lasts for 3.5 hours, starting and ending in Valga city. The Route Diverse bus takes the audience to four locations in Valgamaa where they can experience interactive installations created by artists together with Southern Estonian communities.
The conductor will look after the passengers, keeping them comfortable yet intrigued enough that the audience may become it´s own small temporal community during the ride.
To whom?
To art- and adventure-minded adults and children aged 10 years and up.
The Excursion may be attended by children under 10, but then the children will need support from their caregivers in order to fully understand the installations.

Who is The Route Diverse?
The Route Diverse artworks have been created by three artists in collaboration with Southern Estonian communities.
Jane Remm explores what home means for non-humans: birds, insects, fish etc. Jane re-scales these experiences to human size. This way, in Karula National Park one can experience how life can seem to, for example, a spider.
Patrick Tubin McGinley creates an installation in Hargla based on stories of the supernatural told by people of Southern Estonia. In this installation, through different stories, one will meet the suris of Koikküla, the souls of Ghanaian ancestors, a Roma grandmother and many others.
Barbara Lehtna searches for the answer to the question of how to live in a city in which according to statistics people do not want to live, and how to dream about tomorrow when today seems dark already. The installations in Valga try to challenge the myths about the city and show that maybe progress does not lay in measurable numbers and real estate development, but in a tightly knit community in which each person´s individual skills create a solid whole.
