The New Baltic Sound Quartet (Lithuania/Latvia)
In programme: Pärt, Vasks, Beethoven-Vähi, Narvilaitė, Miliūnaitė
Consisting of two percussionists, a violinist and a cellist, The New Baltic Sound Quartet is an ensemble formed in 2021 by prominent Latvian and Lithuanian performers Pavel Giunter, Dalia Dėdinskaitė, Gleb Pyšniak and Guntars Freibergs. The quartet’s main mission is to inspire the creation of new works by composers from the Baltic states and promote them around the world. This is also the aim of their introspective concert at the Glasperlenspiel, which will feature a new work by Lithuanian composer Loreta Narvilaitė, The rain is falling far from us. Another young Lithuanian composer, Silvija Miliūnaitė, will be represented with the composition The Baltic Games, which premiered at the Kintai Music Festival in 2023, where the quartet was the festival’s resident ensemble. From the same festival comes a setting of Peeter Vähi’s Beethoven-themed work Hommage à brillance de Lune, which will also be performed at the Tartu concert.
