For 16 unforgettable years, Viru Folk has captivated audiences with beautiful emotions, diverse Nordic music, and breathtaking nature surrounding the picturesque village of Käsmu. Viru Folk is a music festival that each year focuses on a specific country or culture. The seventeenth Viru Folk will take place on August 9-11, 2024, with the theme this year being the Alps’ year!
Viru Folk is expecting a number of charismatic musicians from Austria, Switzerland, and Germany - one will get the chance to listen to yodelling virtuosos, dance and listen to folk-music.
Austria will be represented by the King of Alpine Rock - HUBERT VON GOISERN, the masterful harmonica quartet MUNDHARMONIKA QUARTETT AUSTRIA; Tirol dance music will be performed by VOLKSBEAT and JUHE AUS TIROL, and award-winning fiddle player, singer, yodeller and composer CLAUDIA SCHWAB.
Switzerland will lend us the passionate and vibrant family group OECH`S DIE DRITTEN, the Swiss-based Estonian singer INGRID LUKAS and her band, BERNHARD BETSCHART - a man like an orchestra, the folk-music trio AMBÄCK, and the alphorn duo MORGENTHALER /GUTERSOHN.
From Germany, we are expecting a musical collective already known to many Estonians - DOBRANOCH - the Berlin-based group celebrating its 25th anniversary.
Local performers will also be present at Viru Folk. Metsatöll will be rocking the stage with Alpine influences, Tanel Ruben’s trio PÄRI PÄRI will perform with Alphorns, and for the first time in Viru Folk’s history, we will be able to hear the Arsis bell ensemble conducted by Aivar Mäe. The list of EStonian performers continues with KUKERPILLID, LONITSEERA, ANTSUD, RÜÜT, VANAVIISI, TRIO NATURALE, TUULELÕÕTSUTAJAD, LEILA MILLER, LAURI SAATPALU, ANU TAUL, and many others.
The festival’s magnificent Sunday closing concert will be given by CURLY STRINGS, together with NUBLU and Airi Liiva LAULUPESA singers.
