Artistic Director: Kaie Kõrb
On July 26 at the Russian Theatre (Tallinn) and July 27 at the Vanemuine Concert Hall (Tartu), the Tallinn Ballet Gala Junior will take place. More than 30 international participants, including students from ballet schools and young dancers, will perform.
The Tallinn Ballet Gala Junior marks the conclusion of the summer ballet masterclasses organized annually since 2017 by DX ART in Tallinn. The concert features students and young professionals from various countries, as well as a group of young beginners. The choreography and rehearsals span over three weeks in July 2024, and the final contents of the gala depends on the actual participants. Rehearsals are supervised by Estonian choreographers Kaie Kõrb, Dmitry Harchenko, Viesturs Jansons, Marika Muiste, Kaie Kreitzberg, Inna Syrmus, and the guest choreographer Sasha Evtimova (North Macedonia).
Guest Performer: Gustavo Pedro (Brazil), ballet artist from the Vanemuine Theatre.
The gala concert will have two parts. The program will include variations from the ballet “The Fairy Doll” by Josef Bayer, excerpts from the ballet “Le Corsaire” by Adolphe Adam.
This summer, the Tallinn Ballet Gala Junior will be held for the eighth time. Each year, a specific theme is chosen for the production. Previously, choreographers have explored romantic ballet, the works of Peter Tchaikovsky, historical dances, and ballets set to the music of Ludwig Minkus.
The ballet 'The Fairy Doll' by Josef Bayer was chosen for its magical atmosphere, while Adolphe Adam's 'Le Corsaire' adds an element of adventure and romance, allowing the audience to immerse themselves in heroic stories and captivating plots.
"As in previous years, we strive to offer something new and interesting to both the masterclasses participants and the audience of our concerts. This year, the evenings will be dedicated to classical ballet. In the first part, the participants will present the one-act ballet "The Fairy Doll", music by Josef Bayer and choreography by the Legat brothers. Although nowadays this ballet is rarely on stage, it undoubtedly belongs to the "golden fund" of world ballet. Additionally, it provides the masterclasses participants with the opportunity to challenge themselves in complex choreography and to develop their acting skills.
In the second part of the concert, the audience will see the composition "The Best of “Le Corsaire". This ballet needs no special introduction! The great masterpiece by Marius Petipa, "Le Corsaire'' still remains in the repertoire of the most prestigious theaters worldwide. The version offered by TIBM will feature all the most brilliant and challenging numbers from this ballet, presenting a significant challenge for all masterclasses participants." - commented Dmitry Harchenko, who has been involved in the production of all previous gala concerts.
Kaie Kõrb, the artistic director of the concert, said: “The world of ballet is filled with enchanting beauty and charm. I am very happy and proud to have the opportunity to teach children the art of ballet and to share my skills and experience with them. I believe that ballet makes the world a brighter place!”
Event duration: 2 hours + a 30 min intermission
Organizer: non-profit organization DX ART.
