This year’s charity concert 'Songs for the Soldier' to take place in Tartu
This year the charity concert of the Carolin Illenzeer Fund, established to support children of Estonian soldiers severely injured or killed in the line of duty, will take place on 22 June at 7pm in Tartu St. John’s Church.
Performing at the concert to support children of the members of the Defence Forces will be some of the best of Estonian musicians – Laura, Uku Suviste, Pearu Paulus, Ariadne, Mari Jürjens, the Johansons, Helin-Mari Arder, Inga and Stefan. The artists will be accompanied by the Orchestra of the Estonia Defence Forces conducted by Teet Raik. The concert will be honoured by the presence of the patron of the Carolin Illenzeer Fund, President of the Republic Kersti Kaljulaid, as well as Commander of the Defence Forces, Major General Martin Herem and Minister of Defence of the Republic of Estonia, Jüri Luik.
Taking place for the eighth time already, the concert will be broadcast live on ETV on 22 June at 7pm and rebroadcast on 23 June after the Victory Day parade at 12:10pm.
Donations collected with the concert will be used by the Carolin Illenzeer Fund to support the studies and hobby education of the children of Estonian soldiers severely injured or killed in the line of duty. “Just like the Estonian Defence Forces cannot fully function without the support of society, veterans of the Defence Forces and their close relatives need support from not only the state, but from all of us, the entire society. As such, donations from the Carolin Illenzeer Fund mean more than just financial support. It shows that we care and remember, and that we are grateful to our fighters,” the patron of the Fund, President Kersti Kaljulaid said.
The Carolin Illenzeer Fund invites people to reach out a helping hand by attending the charity concert on 22 June or by calling the donation phone numbers of the Fund. Throughout its eight years of operation, the Fund has supported families in sending their children to university and financing their hobby education, and has also provided financial support at the beginning of the school year.
The Fund has been named after Carolin Illenzeer, the daughter of First Sargeant Arre Illenzeer who was killed during the foreign mission in Iraq in 2004. Back then, First Sergeant Illenzeer’s friends and colleagues in the Defence Forces started supporting the family. However, as foreign missions continued and more sad news arrived, the Carolin Illenzeer Fund was established to help families in a similar situation.
The Fund supports the children in its list with a school kit worth 300€and also contributes to their hobby education – be it horse riding, football, music or art. Some of the children have already reached university age and thus the Fund has also started awarding university scholarships. It has become a great tradition to organise charity concerts where everyone can help supporting these children in their studies, further training or hobby education.
