Next October, the unique The Italian Tenors will give three concerts in Estonia as part of their ‘Viva La Vita’ tour. The trio performed in Estonia for the first time this spring, selling out concert halls at record speed.

Jazzkaar brings phenomenal British singer-songwriter Laura Mvula to Estonia for the first time!

The headlining act of Jazzkaar 2018 on 26th of April in Nordea Concert Hall is Laura Mvula. Mvula combines great song writing talent with soft singing voice and lively artistic shine, she has won various awards and has been compared to Amy Winehouse.
 
Mvula considers legendary artists like Nina Simone, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill as her main influencers. Her voice trainings got a strong basis during her childhood at church, later she continued to sing in a women only a capella group Black Voices. She has studied composition in Birmingham Conservatory and conducted many choirs. In 2012, while working at the front desk of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Mvula’s husband encouraged her to send out her home-recorded demos and soon a contract was made with record label Sony. By now, she has performed at various festivals like Glastonbury, North Sea Jazz, Montreux Jazz Festival, Flow and Positivus.
 
Her debut album “Sing to the Moon” (2013) earned various nominations, won the hearts of the listeners and favor from the critics. Her debut single of the same title earned a wider recognition of her as an artist and the following hit single “Green Garden” assured the singers growing popularity even more. A year later, the orchestral version of her debut album was released in collaboration with Metropole Orkest and Jules Buckley. The same programme was also performed at BBC Proms in the reputable Albert Hall together with Esperanza Spalding and Electric Vocals.
 
Her debut album earned Mvula 10 nominations and 3 winnings from different British music awards.
 
The same year Mvula released her second album “The Dreaming Room”, which songs reflected her self-finding after difficulties in her personal life and with her health. Laura Mvula’s songs are deeply personal, for example “Who am I” lyrics speak: “ If all I am is wrong / And all I have is gone / Then how am I to live? / I can only be who I am”.
 
“The Dreaming Room” won a reputable Ivor Novella prize for song writing and composing.
 
Jazzkaar 2018 headliner Laura Mvula performs on 26 April 7:00pm at Nordea Concert Hall. Mvula will be brought to Estonia with the help of Viru Keskus. The tickets to Laura Mvula concert will be on sale from 10:00am on 9 September at Piletilevi.
